Here is a reference letter from Little Maggie Norton. She is the daughter of Trixie ( Goldie`s Bag of Tricks) and Phillip ( Spirited King Deveron). Maggie Norton is a pure black Scottie. Maggie is about 5 Months of age in the pictures her human companions have sent me. To see the pictures Give ma a email at Jasonlainie1@aol.com. (You may have to enter the email address manually as it is not always working properly.) The pictures I have of her are to big to load onto this site. She is a absolutely gorgeous Scottie. She has a beautiful long coat and a wonderful Personality. Her Human Companions are Linda and Steve. This email was sent only days after she went to her new companions home. I let her go at 12 weeks of age. Hi Lainie - We received a good report from the vet this afternoon. Everything seems fine and she now weighs 7.04 lbs. How she could gain a pound and a half in a couple of days is a mystery, but I just think there is probably a difference in the two scales and as long as she is gaining and doing well I'm not going to worry about it.
As for pottying, etc. and hitting the pad she gets an A+. (Well, O.K. she missed by an inch or so this morning, but she is really trying). She also comes when called, will sit when asked, and will play ball as in chase it when rolled to the other end of the kitchen and bring it back to me and set it at my feet. She can't really get the ball in her mouth, but somehow hooks a tooth in the fuzz of the tennis ball and carries it that way. I really haven't tried to teach her to bring the ball. We were just playing yesterday and I said Maggie bring it and she did. The vet gave his permission for her to be out in our back yard only for potty purposes so we had our initial visit out there this afternoon. What a laugh! She walks in the grass like she is walking in a foot of snow!. Can't quite figure out what the stuff is! She got the hang of walking in it in a few minutes and took off for one end of the yard. It was starting to get dark, the grass was damp, I didn't have shoes on and I really didn't want to have to go get her. So I called her from quite a distance and she actually CAME RUNNING! Guess I really shouldn't brag so much, but she really is a sweetie. Seems so very eager to please and we are definitely in love with her. Thank you so much for giving her such a good start in life. You can be extra proud of her!
Linda
This is another letter from The Nortons Sent a few days ago.About little Maggie. She was about 5 months old when this was sent. Hi Lainie - Maggie had her first full haircut yesterday so we tried to get a few pictures and thought you might enjoy seeing them. I don't think the pictures do her coat justice - it is the most gorgeous coat I have ever seen on a dog! So shiny and pretty. She is still on the Chicken Soup and vitamins and seems to be doing very well , she is over 11 lbs. now. Will start puppy school next week. We have hope it will encourage her to lose her stubborn streak (yeah right!). She is not doing very well on her walks - only will walk when she wants to a few feet at a time, but we keep trying. Have you heard any news on how her litter mates are doing?
Steve's brother and his wife will be having their 50th wedding anniversary in Minneapolis next weekend and we have been busy trying to find a kennel where we felt comfortable leaving Maggie while we are gone. I think we have found it - highly recommended to us by a woman who boards her 3 bichons there and also has them groomed there. We went and looked the place over yesterday. There are only 13 runs, each dog has an inside and an outside part, is taken out of the run twice a day to play in a bigger area. Very clean, nicely kept, and we liked the couple that owned the kennel. Hope Maggie will do well. At a couple of the kennels I looked at they told us the dogs all go out and play together and that just didn't sound very good to me. Didn't think I would like some huge Rottweiler bothering our Maggie.
By now all your November puppies have probably left or are getting ready to go. Are you enjoying the peace and quiet?
Linda

Lainie,
Wallace has survived his 1st week with us. He has adapted very well. Is not afraid of anything, the cat, the home noises, the office noises, the boys. He marches around like he has always been here.
He has been eating good - loves his broccoli and snap peas (carrots and apples are so so).
He has already had a bath and did so good! Is not afraid of the water or blow dryer at all. In fact, I was taking a shower and since I keep him with me almost all the time he decided to join me. I looked down and there he was getting all wet right next to me. Didn't want to get out until I made him. What a nut!
The vet said he looked good and we set-up his appointment for his next shots. He said if his coat/skin gets dull or dry to add some oil (canola, flax seed or fish oil) to his food. Have you ever had to do this?
He is doing great is his crate at night. I only use it at night. During the day he is with me and takes his naps next to me in the office on a nesting bed next to my desk. The 2nd night is the only night he cried before falling asleep. Since then, he has been so worn out from the day that he goes in and lays down like he can't wait to rest. Sometimes he has to go pee pee in the middle of the night, but usually he lasts until morning. Unfortunately my husband gets up at 5:30am and so does Wallace. So guess who has to get up at 5:300am now too! My husband and the boys went camping this weekend, so it will be interesting to see how m

HERE IS A SAD STORY FROM ONE OF MY CUSTOMERS. HE BOUGHT A PET STORE SCOTTIE A FEW YEARS AGO. THIS A WARNING (FROM HIM DIRECTLY) TO ALL OF YOU WHO ARE CONSIDERING THE PET STORE DOGS.. PLEASE FIND A REPUTABLE BREEDER AND DO NOT LET YOURSELF BE TAKEN BY A "" REPUTABLE PET STORE"' . PLEASE REMEMBER REPUTABLE BREEDERS DO NOT SELL TO PET STORES. THUS THE STOCK COMES FROM PUPPY MILLS AND BREEDERS WHO ARE UNSCHOOLED IN THE BREED. PLEASE ALSO REMEBER THE AKC DOES NOT PAPER DOGS FROM PET STORES!! SO IF THE "' REPUTABLE STORE "' YOU GO TO SAYS THEY HAVE PAPERED DOGS . THEY ARE REGISTERED THROUGH THE APRI (AMERICAN PET REGISTRY INC) OR THE CKC ( CONTINENTAL KENNEL CLUB) .NEITHER ARE AS STRICT AS THE AKC AND THE DOGS DO NOT HAVE TO BE PROVEN AS PUREBRED TO BE PAPERED!
Dear Lainie,
I was looking at the photos you sent and it reminded me that I hadn't dropped you a note about the loss of our Scottie, Bailey. She was a wonderful companion and terrific dog, loyal through the very end. We got her, foolishly, through a pet store and she was an AKC pup. Sire Black Jack Joe and Dame Blockhead's Floppy out of Missouri and what was likely a puppy mill. Most people don't realize what a reputable breeder is and feel and AKC dog will be perfect. My wife Toni and I found out the hard way that this isn't true. Bailey was a small black-brindle female who never developed what I call her "undercarriage" but I think you refer to as her "furnishings." Didn't bother us as she was a perfect dog for 6 years of her life. We read that Scottie's either love or hate water, and Bailey loved the water. We taught her to be quite an accomplished swimmer in our pool and she loved to float on a raft while the family swam. She traveled well and visited Chicago more than once where we found out that she loved the snow. She was loyal and sweet and a protector of the whole family and also stoic and proud until the very end. At age 6, we noticed that she was having trouble catching things tossed to her which she normally did quite well. We took her to the vet and the veterinary ophthalmologist and found out she had SARD (Sudden Acquired Retinal Degeneration) and she lost all of her sight within 6 months. Cost us about $700 to figure this out and to find out there was no known treatment, much like Retinitis Pigmentosa in humans. She still learned to function quite well as a blind dog in our house and rarely bumped into anything but lost most of her ability to run and play as would be expected. We loved her just as much, if not more.
Then a few months later before she turned 7 and she began to eat and drink voraciously and urinated everywhere including in the house, something she hadn't done since she was a pup. We could leave Bailey at home for hours at a time and she never had an accident and now she had 5 or 6 a day. Back to the vet to find out she now had Cushing's disease. This can sometimes be successfully treated with a drug called Lysodren and we wanted her to get better so we treated her. The testing and the drugs cost us close to $1000 and then she became a Addison's disease dog, the opposite of Cushing's disease. This is more easily treated with oral steroids and she did okay for a while longer, about a year and a half. Bailey then became severely ill with complications of the Addison's and the vet recommended we put her down. Unfortunately, we weren't ready to lose her at that time and we asked to have her treated further with a blood transfusion which ultimately did not help her. This required us to spend another $3000 or so, and in hindsight, was something we should not have done;but she had become such a part of our everyday life that we wanted to try as a last ditch effort. We brought her home after that for a day or two to say our goodbyes and then my wife and I took her to the vet and held her while she was euthanized. It was one of the hardest things we ever had to do and it affects us to this day. I still can't believe she is gone sometimes but she left us and left and empty whole in our house and our hearts.
I thought we spent a lot of money on Bailey when we bought her; I think it was $750, but it cost us thousands during her lifetime and she only lived to be half of a normal life expectancy for a Scottie. We are therefore looking forward to obtaining a new Scottie from you and having her live a long and healthy life as part of our family. We recently took a Miniature Schnauzer mix in as a rescue dog at Christmas and she has helped fill some of the void left by losing Bailey. We are eagerly awaiting word about the birth of our new Scottie and we have already decided to call her "Abby." We definitely have room for another Scottie in the house and await your email in that regard. Hopefully my e-mail will stop others from buying from a pet store or anywhere else except a qualified breeder. The emotional and financial loss are unbelievable.
Sincerely,
Dr. Michael Lamb Reminder, when looking for a pure bred dog or a well bred dog. Please go to a reputable breeder. If not you can incure heartache and you can also promote bad breeders/puppy mills. Who needs this! AND why should sick puppies /dogs be brought into this world just to provide the puppy mills/backyard breeders with $$$ .If you want a great dog sometimes you could have to wait awhile. The wait will be well worth it. Remember to screen your breeder, make sure you can meet BOTH parents on pick up of your puppy. Get a contract that you can get your money back if unsatisfied with the puppy. Get a health guarantee and make sure the puppy is at least 12 weeks of age. 8 weeks is Way to early to take a Scottie. Get a print out of the pedigree and make sure your puppy is registered through the AKC, has been wormed, has had shots and seen by a vet. Take your puppyto the vet no later than 48 to 72 hours after pick up to guarantee it is healthy. EVEN IF YOUR BREEDER HAS HAD THE PUPPY TO THE VET THE DAY BEFORE!! Protect yourself and your potential puppy first!!!
